Southern Karate Organisation BELT GRADINGS
Gradings are pre-booked and paid for in your membership account only and not via the website.

Go to the Store Purchase option – Visit Store to locate the drop down menu of grading options. Please note that gradings are booked according to the current belt the student is wearing and not the belt they are going for.
Southern Karate Organisation® run gradings every two months.
A student requires 3 black stripes on their belt before they can grade.
Grading requirements:
1. All students must wear a clean, pressed karate suit (Gi) with the Southern Karate Organisation® badge sewn on the left-hand side of the chest together with their current belt.
2. Up-to-date membership book, memberships are renewed via your membership account.
3. Students grading for Black Belt must wear a heavyweight karate Gi.
4. Long hair must be tied up/back.
5. No jewellery to be worn.
Prior to the actual Grading, all students do a pre-grade lesson.
This is not an opportunity to gain black stripes, only to refresh the students on their techniques and katas. These lessons are aimed at giving extra practice and give students the benefit of being able to run through everything, including asking any last minute questions, to help alleviate any nerves and to gain confidence.

WHAT DOES MY CHILD NEED TO GRADE :
• Membership & Registration via our membership system at www.membermojo.co.uk/southernkarate.org
• Membership book – this can be collected at grading, if not issued in class.
Membership & registration is £24 Junior / £36 Adult per year
• A karate suit, white belt & Southern Karate Organisation Club badge on the left hand side of the suit (these are available via the Store
on your membership account or can be purchased on the day).
• Loose footwear eg Flip–flops, Crocs, sandals. This prevents odd socks being left behind!
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE:
Allow 1½ hrs for the first grading.
We feel it is important to give students plenty of time to feel at ease with the grading process. Please allow time for
queuing and should the gradings become busy we would ask for your patience and understanding if you are kept waiting. Refreshments are available while you wait.
WILL MY CHILD GRADE ALONE:
No. The children are graded in groups and will be shown by an instructor in the grading what to do.
WHAT IF MY CHILD IS ANXIOUS:
We appreciate the first time doing anything new can be unsettling for some students. All of our Instructors have many years’ experience putting students at ease and assure you it will be a very positive experience for them.
ARE STUDENTS LEFT UNATTENDED:
At no time are students left unattended throughout the lesson/grading process.
IS MY CHILD REALLY READY FOR THIS TEST YET:
Beginners are ready to take the first grade after four lessons.
WHAT IF MY CHILD MISSES THIS GRADE:
They can attend the next grading in two months time.

The grading time is chosen from the dropdown menu when booking. Any amendments to booking incur a £5 admin fee.
PLEASE REMEMBER:
- Membership book – please bring your membership book with you. Current membership is required to grade, this is purchased/renewed via the Southern Karate Org membership system at www.membermojo.co.uk/southernkarate.org .
- Karate suit, belt & Southern Karate Organisation club badge attached on left hand side of suit.
- Loose footwear, eg Crocs, flip-flops or sandals – we always have socks left behind!
- Arrive in karate suit ready to grade.
- Prepayment receipt.
- Long hair tied back & No jewellry to be worn.
- Please allow an hour for the grading. During busy times, queuing may be necessary, please allow extra time for this and we ask for your understanding and patience should you be kept waiting.
- Students must have 3 black stripes on their belt.
- Children must not be left unattended at the grading venue.
Refreshments are available to purchase whilst you wait.

We always receive a lot of calls leading up to grading – here’s the most commonly asked questions:
Your book will be at the Grading venue for you to collect.
Basically, most things can be sorted out at grading with the exception of not being to the required standard which is signified by the 3 black stripes on the karate belt.
